Since I myself will be entering university soon, I’d like to share some tips on how to get yourself prepared for entry. Most people might get a shock on entry as life in university is much less spoon-fed and you are mostly left to discover, research and learn on your own.

Make sure you check out your university website for important updates on the procedures required for freshmen. Do also read up on the syllabus for your course, and try to get an idea of the what the topics are about. Some universities also provide prep courses for students to read up before term starts. If these are available, don’t miss out on a chance to equip yourself with some knowledge before entering university. As lecturers in the university aren’t going to spoon-feed you with information, you will find these prep course very useful in helping you understand what is taught during lectures.

If you have the chance, travel to your university campus and take a tour of the surroundings, just to familiarise yourself. Record the time taken for travel so that you can plan your trips when term starts in order not to be late. Personal alarms may be of use if classes end late in the night as the campus might be dark and quiet, and therefore dangerous.

Not forgetting the fun part of going to university, you can shop for new clothes, bags, stationery, etc. so that you look great and feel confident when stepping into unfamiliar surroundings. Take advantage of the sales to get your equipment as the cost of these items can really pile up.
